ABOUT THOR LAEWE

Thor Laewe is a music producer, composer, and mix engineer based in Los Angeles. He co-founded Laboratory Audio, which makes software for composers.

 

Since 2006 he has collaborated with composer Cliff Martinez, writing original music and mixing the scores for Game Night, Hotel Artemis, Den of Thieves, The Foreigner, Amazon’s The Wilds, and Too Old to Die Young. He also mixed the main title of The Neon Demon. He has written music for trailers including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Sicario, and Pirates of the Caribbean, scored hundreds of episodes of Digimon, Disney’s Stitch!, Mega Man, and Zatch Bell, and contributed additional music to CBS’s Cold Case. Early music-department work includes Stuart Little 2 and Shark Tale.

 

He got his start in the entertainment business in records. After studying Music Production & Engineering and Music Synthesis at Berklee College of Music, he worked as a recording and mix engineer, session player, and synthesizer programmer. He recorded and mixed artists including Brandy, Destiny’s Child, Christina Aguilera, Luther Vandross, Backstreet Boys, Enrique Iglesias, and Warren Zevon, earning four platinum and four gold certifications, and worked with producers and labels including Dave Stewart, Warryn Campbell, Jimmy Iovine, and Interscope. In the same years he composed commercials, jingles, and television spots for an L.A. production house.

 

He was born in Munich and was singing in the boys’ choir of the National Opera of Munich by the age of ten. As a teenager he became fascinated with synthesizers, computers, and music technology, and built his first studio around them.

 

In 2017 he co-founded Laboratory Audio with composer Tobias Enhus. Its instruments, including the cinematic percussion libraries Strikeforce 1 and 2, have become a fixture on major film, television, and game scores.

 

Outside the studio he is an avid big-air kitesurfer.
